Below is a story about Tiya Ellen as told by Ronald, the eldest son.
Mommy Ellen studied BS in Education at the University of the Visayas, Cebu City and stayed with Tiya Salud in Pari-an. She was also helping Tiya Modi’s dress shop business. Papa Edward at that time was also studying BS in Commerce at the University of Visayas and stayed with the Canete’s at their residence in Pari-an. The Canete’s are in-laws of Tiya Salud. That was how the love story begun...
After Papa Edward graduated, he was hired to work in Manila. Sometime in 1957 when he came back to visit Mommy Ellen in Cebu City, they decided to get married and then moved to Manila.
Children born in Manila were: Ronald, Edilyn, Edward Junior and Ricky. Eva and Ray were born in Gingoog City. These were the places the family lived and where Papa Edward worked.
1965 - Gingoog City, Mindanao Plywood Corporation
1970 - Butuan City, Standard Plywood Company
1973 - Cabadbaran, Lepanto Mining Corporation
1975 - Butuan Electric Company as Manager until retirement in 1980
All thru those years, Mommy Ellen remained as a devoted housewife and a loving mother to all of us. When the family finally settled in Cabadbaran, Mommy Ellen opened up her own dress shop in town and was doing well until she gave it up. She peacefully passed away last July 2007.
As of writing, June 4, 2011, Papa Edward has health issues. He has survived a quadruple heart by-pass operation and has developed Parkinsons. After Mommy Ellen passed away 4 years ago, we were fortunate that Eva have chosen to stay in Cabadbaran City to be with our dear father and personally take care of him. For that we thank her very much.
